This symposium will present current research on demographic issues affecting Northern Australia and what it means for the Northern Australian economy, society and demographic future.

Experts will present on:

  • Population ageing
  • The Census in north
  • Indigenous population trends
  • Key characteristics of the Territory’s demography
  • Future demography of the Territory
  • The Northern Australian Development agenda
  • Attracting and retaining high quality workers

Northern Population Matters will present current research on demographic issues affecting Northern Australia and, in particular, the Northern Territory. Researchers from the Northern Institute at Charles Darwin University, together with invited guest speakers, will talk about recent population change in the Territory, why it is occurring, what it means for the Northern Australian economy and society, and what the demographic future might look like.
